H.E. Mr. Mohammad Farhad Azimi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to the Republic of Kazakhstan presented a lecture for the International Relations Students on the topic “Recent Development in Afghanistan: an overview of political and Economic Achievements from 2014 to present” by the invitation of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.

Ms. Amena Minnawi, third secretary and head of cultural and financial affairs of the embassy, ​​accompanied H.E. Mr. Azimi in the lecture.

During the visit, first of all, Mr. Seyit Ali Avcu, Director of Center for internationalism and Image of the Eurasian University welcome H.E. Mr. Ambassador while briefing him about the history of University. Afterwards, Mr. Avcu while presenting the biography of H.E. Mr. Azimi for the Students introduced him.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, joining the students of the International Relations of the aforementioned University gave a lecture on political and Economic achievements of Afghanistan.  H.E. Mr. Azimi began his speech stating that “Afghanistan from the media perspective to real one.” Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan stated that despite the fact that Afghanistan has always been called a center of terror, insecurity, massacre and dozens of other abusive headlines, it nevertheless has a real face to meet with and explore the real version of the country.  

Speaking about the political achievements of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan stated that, despite the fact that Afghanistan had lost the trust and support of its international allies in 2014, the country has been able to not only gain the trust back but also to increase the number of its allies.  On the other hand, Afghanistan for the first time took the initiative to enter into negotiation with Taliban which is the largest terrorist group in Afghanistan to end the many years of conflict in Afghanistan through negotiation, understanding, and dialogue. H.E. Mr. Azimi, referring to the Afghan peace process, stated that the Afghan government is trying to achieve a definitive and final outcome in the summer of next year regarding its negotiations with the Taliban.

On the other hand, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, speaking on the economic achievements of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, stated that Afghanistan has been able to increase its business partners in three ways, the air corridors, ports and transit. H.E. Mr. Azimi emphasized that Afghanistan has been able to increase its bilateral agreements with other countries, including Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, the United States, the European Union, Turkey, China, India, Iran and other countries, after 2014, As a result, exports from Afghanistan have increased significantly over the years than before 2014. Today Afghanistan is exporting numerous types of goods including but not limited to Afghan carpet, dry fruits, precious stones, saffron and other precious commodities to markets in America, Europe and Asia.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan stated that the country’s economic achievements were the result of the Afghan government and its international partners’ efforts. Additionally, H.E. Mr. Azimi stated that if the security situation in Afghanistan improves, the country could extract its natural resources turning itself to one of the Economic powers in the region.

Subsequently, students of the Eurasian University while appreciating H.E. Ambassador of Afghanistan for their prestigious lecture raised some questions on the aforementioned topic. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan answered their questions specifically so that they were satisfied.

Mr. Seyit Ali Avcu and Ms. Akbota Zholdasbekova Dean of International Relations Faculty of the University of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan for their time and patience in attending the lecture. H.E. Mr. Azimi was requested to present several other lectures as well about Afghanistan and its relations for their students.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan stated that students are future leaders of their countries and promised to have close cooperation with the students and Universities for helping them with regard to issues related to Afghanistan. At the end, a short documentary was broadcasted to show the new version of Afghanistan for the Students.
